Taking a bold attempt at breaking through the immutable habit of utilizing the same materials, colors, and furnishing patterns commonly used in living space designs, The Audible Light stands out for its progressive approach. Instead, the focus is on high functionality, with a strong emphasis on the physical control of the natural environment and the close relationship between equipment and people.
With technological intelligence at its core, The Audible Light offers better control over the environment, ensuring convenience for human occupants. The design effectively tackles issues such as high humidity, aggressive damage to furniture and clothing, and threats to physical health caused by climate change and extreme weather conditions.
Key features of The Audible Light include a carbon monoxide sensor that monitors gas leakage and adjusts indoor air quality, as well as a central dehumidifier that maintains constant humidity levels. These features not only ensure the safety and well-being of the residents but also extend the lifespan of various equipment and prevent the growth of mold.
Interacting with The Audible Light is a seamless experience. A photometric sensor illuminates dark areas in the living room with indirect lights, eliminating the need to search for light switches in the dark. The lights automatically turn off when there is sufficient natural light, further enhancing convenience. Additionally, a voice controller allows users to effortlessly control lights, air conditioning, sound systems, and curtains through hidden voice commands, eliminating the need for fixed switches or mobile devices.
The Audible Light project began in August 2018 and was completed in July 2019 in Taichung, Taiwan. The design is a result of extensive research and experimentation, with a focus on adapting the axis of light to eliminate dark areas caused by changes in sunlight direction. By dividing the space into three parallel light spaces and incorporating highly transparent materials, the design maximizes natural light and creates a bright and inviting atmosphere.
Overcoming creative, technical, and research challenges, The Audible Light introduces floating cabinets that increase uncovered surfaces and reduce the weight of the space without compromising storage functionality. These cabinets are securely fixed to the building's structure to ensure safety.
With its innovative approach to design and its integration of technology, The Audible Light has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award acknowledges the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
The Audible Light is not just a residential house; it is a testament to the possibilities of design, pushing boundaries, and redefining the way we live.
